La Tropicale Amissa Bongo

The ninth edition of the international men’s road cycling race, La Tropicale Amissa Bongo, to be held from January 13-19, 2014, will mark the start of the world calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI), as it has done since the inaugural race in 2006. Four international Tour de France teams will be competing this year, alongside two pan-African and nine national teams from across the African continent.

For the first time, this year’s race will include a stage in Port-Gentil, the country’s economic hub. The circuit will include a loop into neighboring Cameroon and will begin at Bitam in the north of Gabon and end at Libreville, the capital, after seven daily stages passing through the towns of Oyem, Ndjolé, Lambaréné, Mouila, Bifoun and Ntoum.

Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa

On the sidelines of the Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa (Paris - 6 and 7 December 2013) attended by several African Heads of State, a high-level meeting was held in the Hôtel de la Marine to discuss the protection of endangered species. During the meeting, France and Gabon announced the signing of a €10 million funding agreement to help tackle the illegal ivory trade in Gabon. For more information:
